Gönül Tavukçu – From Childhood Dreams to the Pinnacle of Art

Born in 1963 in Manisa, Gönül Tavukçu discovered her passion for art at a very young age. While attending Manisa Necatibey Primary School, her talent for drawing was noticed by her teacher in the third grade. Encouraged to pursue art, she began dreaming of painting Atatürk’s portrait—an aspiration that would later become a defining part of her artistic journey.

Family Life and Personal Development

Gönül Tavukçu married Hamdi Tavukçu at the age of 18 and became the mother of a daughter and a son. For many years, she prioritized her family and focused on raising her children. During this period, she kept her artistic talent in the background but continued to improve herself by attending various hobby and craft courses.

Return to Art and Professional Growth

At the age of 40, Gönül decided to return to her lifelong passion: painting. She first attended courses in wood painting and handicrafts, and later enrolled in charcoal and oil painting classes offered by the Ministry of National Education. After six months of intensive training, she significantly strengthened her technical skills. Between 2005 and 2013, she produced nearly 50 works in her own studio, shaping her artistic identity and building a strong portfolio.

Art Career and Exhibitions

In 2013, Gönül Tavukçu joined the Watercolor Association, where she continued developing her techniques. The same year, she participated in her first group exhibition, showcasing works across six different themes. Her paintings received great interest and admiration, motivating her to further immerse herself in oil, watercolor, charcoal, and pastel techniques.

Continuing her artistic journey with dedication, she opened her first solo exhibition in Alsancak, İzmir, between December 25–30, 2019. Her works received high praise from art critics, with particular attention drawn to her portraits of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and Mevlana. In addition to portraiture, she created numerous nature-themed paintings and works inspired by the surrealist movement.
